Before camp, youth can start engaging in simple ways such as:
Use the hashtags, do a birthday cleanup, interview someone about the trash situation, etc.
Pay attention to litter = become a "trash-detective" → what stories does the litter tell? What do we learn from it?
Ask questions, such as: “What if we had Trash Olympics?”
Share the petition with others.
Think about the rules.
Participants are invited to bring at least one relevant idea when they arrive, so they come already involved in the thinking process.
Optional upgrade = Pre-camp activation idea → based on the activities completed after receiving the welcome email, youth is asked to choose a role or GCG level prior to getting there → e.g. Trash Detective, Trashlete or Trash Athlete (if they start any of the challenges); Storyteller (if they did a short video, if they plan to do one at the camp or to write an article), etc. This way, they arrive with a sense of identity and participation.
Begin drawing or designing GCG e-diplomas for all levels.
